Before you visit your plastic surgeon, you may wish to understand a bit more about breast implants, breast lift and breast augmentation in order to have a better conversation with your cosmetic surgeon.

Breast augmentation alone cannot correct sagging or drooping breasts. Simply increasing the volume, or size, of the breast will only cause the breast to sag more with time. When performed as a standalone procedure, breast augmentation can increase or balance the size of the breast, restore the breast volume, and restore the shape of the breast after partial or total loss. In contrast, during a breast lift procedure (mastopexy), loose, excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is tightened. As a result, the overall shape of the breasts is improved, and they are lifted to a new, more upright position. In combination, breast implants and a breast lift result in total rejuvenation, not only increasing the size of the breast, but restoring a firmer, perkier appearance as well.
There is also some confusion on breast fillers vs breast implants around forums and review sites. Please take note that breast fillers like Macrolane are illegal in Singapore. Breast fillers are outlawed by MOH and cannot be performed in Singapore because they've been found to cause serious problems 5 - 7 years after the original breast filler procedure. Breast Augmentation Reviews in Singapore

Sep 2016 - Breast Augmentation and Liposuction
I have not done it yet. I saw the reviews that it will take quite some time to fully recover, so i am still considering about it. Sigh.
Not much recommendations or authentic shared reviews could be found as well. Wonder if its worth to go through the risk for it or should i just do in sg.
However, the price in SG is like more than $10k. Its only maybe more than 70k baht [$2k+] if done in Thai.

Apr 2016 - Breast Filler Breast Enlargement

1- Sloane / Dr. Tan : http://www.sloaneclinic.com/en-sg/aboutus/drtan.asp
- slightly more expensive (about 14k include all followups, medication, band, tape, GST)
- 1st consultation with 3D imaging about $220, not waivable.
- GA
- no long waiting time for appts, very punctual
- very prompt in replies AOH- nurses all helpful and friendly
- need to wear band over chest (above boobs) for 1 mth after BA
- 3D imaging on ur own body to see how implants look like (90% accurate from 3D image and actual results after BA recovery)- no scar cream, but provide scar tape- no removal of stitches, dissolvable

2- Centre For Cosmetic Rejuvenation & Surgery / Dr. Shens : http://www.centreforcosmetic.com/profile-dr-shens/
- many of the girls in the thread previously go to Dr Shens, if not wrong costs about 11-12k ?- if sign up for BA, i think the 1st consultation ($150 - 200 if memory serves me right can be waived)
- no need wear band
- sells scar cream- LA + sedative
- can't remember if stitches need to be removed- if make appt, pls be prepared to wait- wear the implants with bra and a tight white t-shirt to guage the size on your body
- some girls worry because they clinic is quite exposed to the public area but got curtain to cover

Disclaimer : I am not against Dr. Shens, many girls were very happy with his BA too. So i guess its just personal preference.

Myself is with Dr. Tan and coming 1 year after BA, so above is what i can rememberIf anybody is interested in BA, would highly recommend Dr. Tan since i was in very good hands and very very satisfied with the results. May be abit more expensive but every cent is worth it.

The Straits Times featured my story and I would like to clarify the following :
REASONS FOR BREAST IMPLANT RUPTURE
Our bodies wear down with time, just like cars and about everything else in life. This is also the case for implants. The rupture of breast implants can occur any time after the initial breast augmentation.

Feb 2016 - Please take note of the update from the administrator of SingaporeMotherHood.com:
"There were a few complaints that the thread had been abused and faked postings have been made so the thread has been removed." and "we wouldn't know which postings are real or fake so we chose to remove all."

Guide To Breast Augmentation In Singapore Vs Overseas (As Told By A Plastic Surgeon)

In my years of practice, I’ve seen both friends and patients return from breast implant surgery abroad. Unfortunately, I’ve also had to manage some complications and unsatisfactory results from their overseas breast augmentation (that’s not to say those done locally don’t have complications as well!)

This got me thinking about why people choose to go overseas for breast augmentation, and some of the associated hidden pitfalls.

If you’re still deciding between having your breast augmentation in Singapore or abroad, below is my personal pros vs cons analysis for you to make a more informed decision. After all, that’s what we, as doctors, all want – for our patients to have the best possible care and treatment outcomes, regardless of whom they choose to turn to.

Why Did I Go For Breast Augmentation?

Since young, I have been humiliated for having small boobs. Unless you are a flat-chested woman, you will never understand the pain of it.

As I grew up, having always needed to wear padded bras got really uncomfortable – and with that, my consideration on having Breast Augmentation is firm.

I was fearful of going under the knife initially. But at the end of the day, to be who I really want to be, the fear must be overcomed.

Most people might feel the fear after deciding on plastic surgery, be it going under knife or not, but I was all prepared mentally. I know what I have always wanted to do since I was still in high school.

Be Who I Want To Be

And now with the arising trends for plastic surgery in Singapore, I took a bold step going under the knife – in beautifying myself. Many may disagree, but the less you care about others, the happier you will be.

Now that I had my Breast Augmentation surgery done, I am full of confidence, with a beautiful body every woman long for. And I am proud to step forward to share my experience with you.

Thank you Dr. Shens | Shen’s Clinic for helping to gain the confidence in me.

I am finally able to wear anything I like! ..

Breast augmentation - Dr Shens or Dr Colin Tham?
By Mei Fen, May 29, 2017
Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing. My friend just had breast implant procedure with the other doctor and she doesn't like the change. I don't want to judge the doctor based on my friend's opinion though. However, I'm going for the same procedure too with doctor shens... I've read some good reviews about him and I'm going for a consultation with him tmr! Feeling both excited and nervous. Hope I'll get the result I want... wish me luck!

A pair of silicone breast implants in Singapore costs SGD$2200.

We do understand that price is an important consideration for a breast augmentation procedure. However, plastic surgery is not without risks. It's advisable that you just don't look for the cheapest deal as there are aesthetic guidelines in Singapore that define who, what and where breast augmentation procedures can and cannot be done in Singapore.

Breast Filler - Thread
May 2011 - My best friend had it done too at Asia Healthpartners in Lucky Plaza with a lady doc. She was very happy with her new breasts, think she said it was about 8k too. Hers are still quite nice, she's still her cup C from her previous B and this is 9 months already. I guess it does depend on one's metabolism and how active one is for fillers to run out. She said she was ok, ached a bit for a day but she was out with the girls the next day and we went shopping and had high tea. Don't think the same rules apply to everyone.

Best Breast Augmentation Surgeon in Singapore

Below, we have also compiled a list of plastic surgeons and cosmetic surgery centres in Singapore. Since breast augmentation can only be done by centres with an operation theatre, we have listed only plastic surgeons who are practicing in a hospital or an ambulatory care centre.

*We have also added their estimate age for your convenience. As it was difficult to find available information on the age of the plastic surgeons, we have made an estimate based on the year that they have completed their medical degree program. Most doctors would have completed their basic medical degree at an estimated age of 25 years old. For example, Dr Erik Ang; graduated from NUS with MBBS (NUS) in 1989. So, current year (2017) minus 1989 = 28 years post-graduation. Therefore, his current age is 25 + 28 = 53 yrs old.

Moving Forward - What Next?

While the most expensive surgeon may not necessarily be "the best", there also may be reasons for a surgeon to charge a relatively lower fees. If "shopping" by phone for the "best deal" in plastic surgery, beware of "low-balling". The low-balling technique is a persuasion tactic in which an item is initially offered at a lower price than one expects in order to get the buyer to commit; then the price is suddenly increased.

Make sure you know what you are quoted; a surgeon’s fee vs. the TOTAL fee for the procedure. The total fee is higher since it would include the surgeon’s fee, the operating room cost, the anesthesia fee and any special charges (such as implants or laser fees) and also the necessary follow up visit/s. In general, the costs for each procedure are a general range for the surgeon's fee, the hospital / surgical center facility fee, and the fee for the anesthetist or anesthesiologist. Be aware that operations whose extent and duration is based on the size of the patient (such as liposuction) cannot realistically be quoted on the phone without an examination.

You may wish to run through the following as your summary checklist:
  • Filter and shortlist your clinics after going through relevant reviews.
  • Once you have shortlisted the clinics, do compare them based on your first impressions and other considerations. Use a table with factors to consider and a scoring for each important factor, if you need to improve your clarity.
  • Have they answered all your questions?
  • Are they accommodating in terms of appointment time and date?
  • Was the consultation thorough?
  • Was a solid plan of action determined with detailed information especially post-procedure precaution and care?
  • In the event of a possible complication or infection, do you need to pay extra?

And one last precaution, hotel rooms are not meant for cosmetic surgery procedures. If anyone were to convince you otherwise, please stay away from that person!

Did you have any cosmetic surgery done? How much did it cost you? Please share in the comment box below.
